Remote Mining Camps

Design and installation of wastewater treatment systems for remote mining camps and exploration sites with limited road access.

Remote mining camp wastewater treatment installation

CSCA mandate

Design and installation of wastewater treatment systems for remote mining camps and exploration sites located in areas with limited or seasonal road access.

Project overview

Canadian Shield Consultants has delivered water and wastewater treatment approaches for remote mining camps across Northern Canada. These projects support potable water supply and wastewater treatment for camps supporting 50 or more personnel in extreme cold, fly-in-only locations.

System design and technology

Typical approaches include modular, containerized wastewater treatment plants with advanced treatment and UV disinfection for high-quality effluent. Heated, insulated treatment modules rated for extreme cold, powered by solar and diesel hybrid systems with remote SCADA monitoring. Zero-discharge designs support full reuse or evaporation, and potable water treatment uses reverse osmosis with UV from local water sources.

Installation logistics

Work includes helicopter-slung modular units into remote sites, winterized construction using local workforces, onsite training for camp operators, and annual fly-in maintenance programs.

Remote project requirements

These projects demonstrate modular wastewater treatment, potable water treatment, remote installation logistics, operator training, and long-term maintenance planning for mining camps and exploration sites.
