Landfill site monitoring, sampling, risk assessment, and remediation planning for municipal and environmental engineering needs.

Water sampling for landfill and leachate monitoring

Project overview

Canadian Shield Consultants has extensive experience as an environmental lead for landfill site monitoring in Ontario, delivering MECP-compliant sampling, risk assessment, and remediation planning. Based in St-Charles, ON, the team supports projects that ensure long-term landfill stability, protect groundwater and surface water, and safeguard community health under mandates from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).

Sample collection and laboratory analysis

The monitoring program includes groundwater monitoring wells on quarterly and annual schedules, surface water and sediment sampling, leachate quality testing for pH, metals, VOCs, PFAS, and PAHs, plus soil vapour and methane gas monitoring — supported by fully accredited ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory partnerships.

Risk evaluation

Comprehensive evaluation includes human health risk assessment (HHRA), ecological risk assessment (ERA), contaminant plume modeling, and trend analysis against Ontario Drinking Water Standards (ODWS) and Provincial Water Quality Objectives (PWQO).

Action plans and MECP reporting

Work includes trigger-level contingency planning, remedial action recommendations such as pump-and-treat, bioremediation, or capping, annual compliance reports submitted to the MECP, and public consultation support for local residents.
